Maybe an alternative to Carbonite?
So quite accident I stumbled across this app called ChronoSync. I just downloaded the trial and haven't played much with it yet, other than to see if it was what I thought it was. YOu can check it out, here.
IT IS, mostly.
It provides mirroring, from one machine to another, or NAS. You can do blind backups or mirror data one way or both.
The only thing it doesn't do that Carbonite offers is put the data completely offsite. I set up a sample run to the NAS in my basement, seemed to work just fine. Of course if my house burns down I'm still up shit creek. But in light of no better options (Carbonite!! Hurry the hell up, will ya?) it might be what I need to use. Apple's BackUp 3 is nice, but time consuming.
From what I've read so far (not much, lots of doc included, which is nice) It does what carbonite does. Watches for changes and takes care of them, where as backup pretty much just does some compression and copy... time and space consuming.
We'll see. I plan to play with it a little this weekend, maybe it'll replace Backup 3 altogether.
