Never been a DUNE fan but...

I was in San Jose doing my conference and visited Fry's. I love the Fry's simply because it's a place where you can buy the parts to scratch build your power house gamer box, buy a Toshiba Laptop, pick up a new washing machine and Fridge, and buy a few groceries too. It's great.

So I saw a book, huge book, for 7.99, hardcover. In the discount section. It was "The Machine Crusade"
I picked it up, read the synopsis, looked neat and I needed a book to read on the plane. Little did I know (Until I started reading) that it was part two of of a trilogy. D'oh!

So I then of course had to go to amazon and order the other two. And unfortunately the bargain bin hardback was just too big. Herbert's Kid and Anderson are some verbose MF'ers!

So I had to order the same book I already owned for the same price in paperback. Yippy!

All that and my point is. This trilogy is more general Sci Fi than DUNE, which for me was good, since Deserts and big worms, don't do a lot for me. So those chapters I breeze through to get to the good, stuff. Space battles, thinking machines, religious zealotry, some dirty politics. Good stuff.

I can't speak for Herbert, but Kevin J Anderson spins a good tale, so if you're looking for your next read, take a peek at the Legends of DUNE trilogy.
